Organizations that continue running SQL Server 2014 face increased exposure to unpatched vulnerabilities, heightened compliance risk, and greater susceptibility to cyber threats that would otherwise be mitigated through regular security updates.Â
Organizations can modernize to Azure through a fully managed platform (Azure SQL Managed Instance) or an infrastructure-based approach (Azure SQL VM), upgrade their on-premises environment to SQL Server 2019 or 2022 with Windows Server 2022, or remain on-premises by purchasing Extended Security Updates.Â
Yes. Deploying SQL Server 2014 to an Azure SQL VM allows organizations to move to Azure infrastructure while retaining their existing database version, with the option to upgrade to SQL Server 2022 at a later stage.Â
Yes. Extended Security Updates allow organizations to maintain their existing server and application environment for up to three years from the end of support date. Alternatively, an on-premises upgrade to SQL Server 2019 or 2022 is available.Â
